Cow Pictures
In the desert southwest it is easy to find range cows to
photograph. Depressingly easy in cases when it
is obvious the land has been badly overgrazed for years. We
hate to see skinny cows attempting to graze on land were
it looks like they use more energy walking back and forth
from the water tank than they gain from what little grass
they can find.
Range ecologist will tell you the land is overgrazed if
more than 5% of the ground is covered with snakeweed. Snakewee
is a bright green shrubby plant with bright yellow flowers. In
many places it is about all you see growing. Its other
name is matchweed, from all the terpines it produces. There
is a reason nothing will eat it.
On a more positive note, some of these range cows graze
in very scenic country with interesting old building, abandoned
ranches or other human artifacts. Efforts to breed
a cow that does well in this environment have produced some
interesting mixures of Hereford - Bramha and other crosses.
It is not uncommon to see bands of antelope or elk mixed
in with the cows.
Walking Rain Gallery
This website displays only a few of our collection of cow
pictures. At Walking Rain Gallery we have more, as
well as many pictures of other subjects. Clicking
links on this site will take you to the cow category
of Walking
Rain Gallery. Once
there you can see all of our cow pictures and order
whatever pictures and/or products you would like. We
invite you to look around and see what we have in other categories
while you are there.
About us and our cow pictures
We enjoy photography and use the income from sales of our
pictures and products to finance more travel and photography. However,
we find the rights management conditions required by stock
photo companies unreasonable.
Our copyright and digital rights management is very simple:
you can do anything you want with these images, including
using them for commercial products, except claim
you have a copyright to the original image. We retain
the right to use the images ourselves in any way we please. Fair
enough?
We have included images on the website which are not
large enough to print a 5" x
7" at
300 DPI. The download for those is free. We think
that is a good way to let customers test our shopping cart
and enjoy pictures which are to small for demanding uses.
Techniques & Technology I got my first camera (a Nikkormat) in 1965 and have been
taking pictures ever since. We took slides for many
years and then converted to film. We finally made the
move to digital and are still in the conversion process. This
and related sites are being built by converting our huge
collection of negatives to digital, editing them with Photoshop,
and building websites based on the pictures and our experiences
taking them. It's a lot of work so it will be a while
before these sites can be considered a finished project. We
think there is a lot to enjoy in the meantime through. |
